"Every instance of heartbreak can teach us powerful lessons about creating the kind of love we really want."

Donna Simpson of New Jersey is looking to go down in history as a women that weighs 1,000 pounds (SMH). She told telegraph.co.uk, “I’d love to be 1,000lb. It might be hard though. Running after my daughter keeps my weight down.” She's got three kids, from 3 to 14. Where's Howard Stern now?
(*shoutout to Illseed @AllHipHop.com)
Yet another celebrity has torn their underwear with me. Mel Gibson already proved to be anti-Semitic, now he's just a prick and an all around racist. Listen to this gem recorded from a phone conversation with his ex girlfriend.
He's an ass. Plain and simple. He's been a box office titan for years and when we finally turn the mic on to listen to him speak he shows his true colors as a bigot and a terrible human being. No he didn't beat his wife (that we know of) or club baby seals, but no one should talk to any woman that way. Let alone the mother of your children. Then he follows the same road of such esteemed company as Micheal "Kramer" Richards, Don Imus and Dog the Bounty Hunter in spewing racial epithets like they were punctuation in a text or colloquialisms in everyday conversation.
It makes you wonder how many other Caucasian celebrity darlings are blatant racists? Julia Roberts? Alec Baldwin? Steve Carrell? Ashley Judd?? I don't wanna speculate really and I'm by no means insinuating that only white celebrities are racist. I think everyone has racism in them to a certain degree. But damn...not Riggs. I just forgave him for his post-Passion of the Christ rant on Jewish people. Now I can't bring myself to watch a single Lethal Weapon movie. The whole chemistry seems fake now. SMH
I won't comment on whether or not I think they can win titles. Let's see them play together with a complete team first. I feel like I've been commenting or seen so much commentary on this already, but I'm COMPELLED to keep up this charade. I really don't want to talk about Lebron anymore, but the whole hour long "Decision" was so....dramatic and hyped up. I felt like I was watching Monday Night Raw all night waiting for John Cena's decision only to find out he was defecting to TNA....or something of that degree...
In other words? The NBA is becoming a lot like WWE. Dan Gilbert's tirade sounded like a wounded and bitter Vince McMahon who's so adamant about being anti-wrestlers once they leave his company that he bans moves that remind fans of their legacy. He recently banned wrestlers from using Knife Edged chops so that fans in arenas would no longer WOOOOOOOO! throughout venues across the country.
No need to worry about if Gilbert's gonna ban chalk in The Q however. Fan's are just as Anti-Lebron as they were Anti-Hulk Hogan at the 1996 Bash at the Beach when their beloved hero in Red and Gold joined the Outsiders to form the NWO.
*lol
The bad part about it is, like any wrestling fan in 2010 with access to a computer and internet...I already knew what was gonna happen before it did...I was just curious how it was gonna play out. I knew Lebron wasn't going to re-sign with the Cavs. I think deep down the Cavs did too, they just hoped against hope they were wrong...and sure enough? The montreal screwjob is replaced by the Connecticut Double-cross.
I could almost side with Cleveland fans (whom I genuinely feel bad for) when they say this is the biggest heel turn in professional sports in decades...but then you see Lebron's hurt and remorseful face when fans burned his jersey. You see the last minute jitters about making an announcement that would ultimately CRUSH a whole city...Makes you wonder how Hogan felt that night before he dropped the leg across the adams apple of Macho Man Randy Savage.
After years of telling kids to say their prayers, eat their vitamins and listen to their parents...you go to where the grass is greener with hopes of dominating the sport. A new world order, one that promises championships.
The only difference between Hogan and Lebron? Hogan already won a slew of Championships. So again...what was the motivation?
He's 25. His greatest memories before coming to the league were playing with his high school buddies. Maybe he just wanted that old feeling back. Hell, he couldn't get Bosh to come to Cleveland, so we knew Wade was out. Cleveland didn't have a squad that could help Lebron get a title, how would they help the NWO? Now Pat Riley (Eric Bishoff) has to find scrubs to round out this new band of bad-boys in South Beach.
Who's gonna be the new Horace Hogan, Disciple, Bryan Adams, Stevie Ray and Vincent? *lmao
Seriously...I can look at this two ways. Who WOULDN'T want the chance to play texas hold em with a stacked deck? It's the chance to have a REAL SHOT out the gate at a championship with three members of the gold-medal winning dream team...c'mon son. I can't hate that.
On the same token, who would wanna be towel boys for the NWO. Because there were no role players in the NWO, just bodies to make them look menacing while the faces; er, heels got all the shine.
hmmmmm....
Maybe in Lebron's head he was joining the Wolfpac against Kobe's NWO Hollywood? Or maybe the Celtics are D-Generation X?
It all seems far fetched and maybe I watch WAYYYYY too much wrestling. But say you couldn't picture Ron Artest coming out of the Staples Center locker room wielding a steel chair in the 4th against the Heat to even the odds?....right
Dan Gilbert has issues. It's official, King James is no longer a Cavalier, He's officially the exclusive property of the Miami Heat playing alongside D. Wade and Chris Bosh. So LeBwosh will be tearing up the Eastern Conference next season and Cleveland fans are left holding their jaws in their laps...
For some reason, despite the fodder and pageantry they involved themselves in, they never believed their beloved "King" would leave them. And when he did? All shit hit the fan. So much so that fans took to burning Lebron James "23" jerseys in the streets.
Like little kids acting out after their favorite superhero turns out to be a super-villian, they felt betrayed and hurt and acted out. Their only voice? Violent acts against fabric *lol. What other outlet do they have? I'm surprised they didn't take to looting in the streets? Luckily they didn't have to. Cavaliers Majority Owner Dan Gilbert said it all for them in an open letter verbally assaulting Lebron's character, integrity and loyalty. He even went so far as to CURSE the man...SMH, see for yourself:
Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;
As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.
This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.
Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.
The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.
There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.
You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.
You have given so much and deserve so much more.
In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:
"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"
You can take it to the bank.
If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.
Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.
Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.
This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.
But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.
The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.
Just watch.
Sleep well, Cleveland.
Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....
I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:
DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....
Can you say issues? I wonder if he will regret those words being made so public. For that matter I wonder if Lebron will regret not telling the owner of his decision before he made it? BUT as I stated the night of, atheltes are more like thoroughbred horses than people to NBA Brass. Once they've gone and got injured or became ineffective in the offense they would've been looking to unload him on another team anyway. Look how they did Iverson. It's no secret Loyalty and NBA Owners haven't been synonymous. So in that respect? Kudos Lebron for going where you can get a ring...maybe. And we can get into debates about whether he's still the heir apparent to "His Airness" now that he's not the leader of a team or if he's now just a souped up Scottie Pippen to D. Wade with Bosh as the Rodman...that's a blog for another day. Let's wait till the season starts before any speculation.
But with a 24 hour media frenzy and being courted by 5 teams to an announcement commandeering ESPN by a player with no championships to this?!?! They might have to change the NBA Tagline to "Where Drama Happens..."
I've been saying this for a minute, Lil Kim is now coming to the forefront with her comments and now fellow blogger Don Khafa has put together images to detail just how deep the obsession goes.
I will say this. I've always had an intense curiosity when it came to the Queen Bee. But I'm equally fascinated with Nikki Minaj. The problem is, I really don't like her *lol
In truth, I think she sets a bad example for young African American girls wanting to be accepted and appreciated for their talents and gifts that are non-anatomical. Yet the whimsical, off-kilter rhyme schemes of Nikki Minaj, Nikki Lewinski, Nikki the Ninja, Nikki the Boss or whatever she's calling herself this week has caused girls age 7 to 27 and higher to answer to the call "It's Barbie Bitch!". And who was the first Black Barbie on the rap scene?
The queen bee. Lil' Kim.
"Black Barbie dressed in Bvlgari...I'm tryin to leave in somebodies fararri..."
Check the How many licks video...(Atlantic disabled embedding, but the proof is in the pudding).
The more you watch, the more apparent it becomes. Yes, the rhyme styles are different. Lil Kim is actually more lyrical in many of her verses than Nikki Minaj, however, Nikki is much more widely known for her wordplay and punchlines. Kim was never known for witty one liners, more like dirty limericks.
HOWEVER...swagger jacking is about style. Nikki Minaj was not the colored wig wearing phenom when she first came out. As a matter of fact she was known for her ass-ets and black tresses only. Now? She shows up to the MTV awards looking like Wilma Flinstone in an orange wig.
Not that there's a monopoly on colored wigs, but before it was a fashionable marketing ploy? Lil Kim had the market cornered on it. It was her trademark, we came to expect it. Purple, green, red, blonde especially...and now? A cornerstone of the look that is Nikki Minaj. Maybe it's fitting that her oft adorned neck has a charm that reads "Barbie", because they're fake. A pre-packaged persona of what a woman should be based upon euro-centric ideals of beauty. One of the many reasons I despise any sort of "Barbie" movement. But then again... At the BET Awards, as Nikki accepted her Best Rap Female Award (which I'm trying to understand how with one single and no album, but who is she competing against?), she was very classy. Humble, surprisingly articulate and actually paid homage to all the women who paved the way before her. In essence addressing without addressing Lil' Kim's verbal harangue in front of a live audience as well as those watching at home. A true class act.
But then again,...what can she say? The comparisons are blatant?
Recently we learned that Nikki's new single "Your Love" has reached #1 on Billboard's Top 100 countdown. A feat that hasn't been accomplished in over 8 years (last done by Missy Elliot with "Work It" ).
How did this happen? Marketing...a throng of loyal twitter followers on #TeamMinaj and the essence of whom she probably considers a pioneer in the Rap Game...Kimberly Jones. Otherwise known as Queen Bee.
I'm no bandwaggon jumper, but Nikki is starting to grow on me. I still despise blind following by the masses, but her lyrical ability has improved as well. Her outfits and blatant swagger jacking aside, you can't deny that:
Still, is Nikki Minaj the Ultimate Swagger Jacker? Don Khafa seems to think so. I tend to agree, but I'll say maybe she's put a less sex intensive spin on it with a more 2010 edge on it. Not ignoring her sex appeal but not relying on it as much. If I say she's Swagger Jacking Kim, I also gotta say she's jacking Lady GaGa and Gwen Stefani too *lol
I gotta admit...he got me. First let me say this...no other entertainer should be allowed to do a MJ tribute at this point except Chris Brown...(Sorry NeYo). It just goes without saying at this point. Dancing and vocals are more comparable. But aside from aesthetics, this was an impassioned performance coming from what I can only perceive as a truly remorseful young man.
He hit Rihanna. Yes, we know. I'm not excusing this and as I've stated on this blog I never would advocate the beating of a woman by a man. BUT,...he's 20 years old. A kid in many respects, and he grew up in a household where domestic abuse was common. He tried to escape it and it followed him. He's just as screwed up as the household that birthed him apparently. He let his emotions get the better of him and he took it out on RiRi...
No one knows what happened that night. There's three sides to every story. His side, her side and the truth. The truth may never come out and Chris never truly said what happened. Maybe out of guilt or just wanting to put the whole issue behind him, who knows. But the issue is what got him banned from the BET Awards last year. That and Jay-Z & Beyonce refusing to attend if he was present.
...But Mr. and Mrs. Knowles-Carter weren't present. Thank god. Honestly, this was the first tribute other than Janet Jackson's at the MTV Awards last year that was worth the price of admission. It had all the pagentry of an MJ performance, but the cherry on top was the tears of a child star who felt the sting of the very lyrics he was charged to sing.
Looking at the man in the mirror, determined to make a change, Chris Brown went from hearthrob and media darling to pariah and public enemy over night thanks to TMZ and over night, he couldn't buy positive press if his life depended on it. Now, with seemingly a second chance to do the performance meant for him...the lyrics seemed to crash in around him. He sank in.
And we drank it up.
The court of public opinion dialed in their vote. Chris has suffered perhaps enough. His record sales have languished, the movie role offers have stopped. His every move scrutinized, his only place of refuge being the stage. Maybe he has much more in common with Micheal than we thought to realize. All I know is, CB's performance made an otherwise uneventful BET Awards Must See TV. So much so that TiVo's round the globe were set to see the moment everyone would surely be talking about at the water cooler the next day. Hearts broke when his tears fell. And many (not all) forgave him for his transgressions.
Is it premature? Maybe. But who are we to judge anyway. What makes us so perfect? He did his time, he's trying to get his life on track. Before we cast any more dispersions, maybe we should look at the man or woman in the mirror....
Thought so.
Even still, many view this as Brown taking an opportunity to honor a fallen star to highlight himself and get back in good graces. I can't call it. But I don't see him as that cutthroat. After all, they said the same about Rihanna's timely 20/20 interview just hours before her Rated R album came out...
You never can tell with celebrities. But I know what side of the fence I sit on.
You're not home yet Chris, but you're on the road there...
Okay, first I gotta address this. This was in my random news anyway, but there's been updates (shout out to Illseed), so apparently 42 year old Donna Simpson of New Jersey is serious as a heart attack about her attempts to break a record and reach 1000 pounds. No ton intended. Well,...maybe intended. Her chubby-chasing hubby is in full support and has been bringing her steaks with sides of a whole stick of butter for months in preparation. He thinks the fatter she gets, the sexier she is...She says he's definitely a "belly man" SMH...I don't see how he would ever be able to have sex again. If she reaches 1000 pounds she'll crush him like a 5 foot garlic press.
But I digress....and she digests...
Remember when Howard Stern made those caustic remarks about Gabourey Sidibe.
Of course Gabby is famous or rather infamous for her portrayal in the title role of the movie Precious. No one really truly thinks Howard Stern is the nicest guy on the planet, nor do I think he's concerned with getting invited to any dinner parties any time soon, so his hurtful remarks aren't my concern. It would be different if he weren't the only one dissing her. Even after all the media attention and outcry of support for Gabby, and the news reports from local and national media outlets that indicate she in fact did receive additional acting roles and work in an upcoming series on Showtime; Jamie Foxx STILL went in on her on his radio show for Foxhole on satellite radio. And I mean he went in. Even so far as to call her the "Notorious Precious".
...SMH...
The saddest part of this whole conversation is, underneath the comedic jabs and painful ribbing. They're right. It's difficult to judge the acting chops of an up and coming actor cast solely for their body type. I haven't even seen the movie, but I saw snippets and I saw her live on the Monique show. Actually, the latter made me less inclined to go to the theaters or to the RedBox in attempts to watch it. She basically mumbled and shuffled through the movie evoking pain and seemingly catatonic from abuse. Heartbreaking as the story was, I'm not sure what range she was judged upon.
But then again, as in as thin is, we've always had an affinity for thick. Just like Mr. Simpson, we wrap our arms around the belly-fat of our favorites readily. Just look at the numbers put up by movies such as Big Momma's House, Madea Movies, and perhaps the progenitor of the fat-suit trend; The Nutty Professor.
We cheer for them when they triumph in spite of their size and weep for them when it becomes a near crippling road block. We laugh with them when they poke fun at their own enormity and chuckle harder when they're the butt of someone else's jokes. Just look at the naturally large men and women who rose to levels of success while being typecast by size: James Belushi, Chris Farley, Lou Costello, Cedric the Entertainer, John Candy, Ralphie May, Gabriel Iglesias, Curly Howard (3 Stooges) and Rodney Dangerfield. They got tons of roles...(seriously I didn't mean a pun this time), but in every case their size was always a huge factor in the funny.
Does this mean that Gabby will be cast out of drama and into the land of comedy where weight reigns supreme? Maybe she'll show up on Glee as the newest stereotypical big girl from the Baptist Choir. Maybe she'll shut us all up and win next season's edition of Celebrity Fit Club?
What isn't funny is that with many of those funny fat men I mentioned earlier, many of them succumbed to the health risks associated with obesity, struggled with drug use or alcoholism (stemming from deep seeded depression). Each celebrated for their size and every one drenched in loved ones lamenting about how they didn't invest in their health sooner. But this is Gabby's first role...there's still time yet. Isn't there?
Who knows. But with all the media attention and with weight conscious divas like Oprah Winfrey and bigger is better spokeswoman turned svelte starlet; Oscar winning Monique in her corner...I doubt she'll be playing the big girl role for long...and certainly not forever.
Okay, so I have the BIGGEST love/hate relationship with Nicki Minaj. Don't get me wrong. In the looks department, sista-gurl's bad. At the risk of coining a phrase: "she can get it". On her worst day in the worst way. But when it comes down to her messages and her actual ability to rock the mic?
I'm honestly torn.
Especially the way she presents herself. I mean, I'm all for the feminist movement of being able to rock just like the men do. I've always been offended by the term femcee or categorizing female emcees differently than men (because honestly; Roxanne bodied UTFO and next to X, Eve was clearly the standout on Ruff Ryders). Word to Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown, Nicki's not really in her own lane. Unless you count being borderline weird as a lane *lol
I'm even conflicted with THAT statement. Part of me loves her. Her swag is undeniable. She spits bluntly with a level of confidence that defies her male counterparts. She's spit alongside hip hop titans both highly touted and underrated (see anything with Young Money on it or the BET Hip Hop Cypher).
And even though that's probably one of the rawest versus I heard her spit? She's a carbon-copy of Lil' Wayne's delivery. She's good for maybe 1 or 2 good metaphors per verse if not per song. So we've established that she's swagger jacking Kim & Foxy with her sexual persona. Her flow is the trademark of the would be "best rapper alive"....pause....
So what's she famous for? Being a barbie?
The Barbie, an iconic and unrealistic standard of euro-centric beauty. So in a world where young and old black women have to compete with size comparisons, hair issues and complexion complexes...now the standard of beauty and girl power is a plastic and synthetic plaything?
I'm sure it sounded good the first time she said it. I mean, now she get's to yell "It's Barbie Bitch"...but it still doesn't have the same biting wit as when Brittany Spears did it. I'm missing something. Even after she explains WHY she likes the term barbie, it just sounds like a marketing ploy. I mean, she does wear A LOT of pink. Even in her own synthetic weave extensions. If not her blonde or pink wigs. She's always flashing that 1000 watt smile similar to the one permanently etched on poor Barbie's constructed mug. Maybe the similarities were just too striking. But now she's got a Barbie Army. She's the ringleader for a new wave of feminism in rock star status; complete with sharpie signature tattoos on the mammaries of her devoted followers.
I don't know. Maybe I want Nicki to be more socially conscious than she is. But I want the same for all rappers, so I don't think I'm being too unfair in that regard. I want Gucci, Wacka, Gotti and a host of others to come correct too. It's the whole Charles Barkley dichotomy. Regardless of how badly you want to exist separately from it, the moment you're popular SOMEONE is going to look up to and emulate you.
I'm just puzzled by why anyone would want to emulate her antics...I'll be interested see if she's got the staying power to make the Barbie Movement a force within hip hop or if she'll become a foot-note in the history of female emcees signed to male dominated labels & rap groups. Will she rise to prominence as a future hip hop honoree like Missy Elliot or MC Lyte...or will she watch from the crowd alongside Charli Baltimore, Amil and her "good friend" Remy Ma.
So Kanye put up his new blog and in the process re-created an iconic image of a baby-oiled up Grace Jones.
here's the original:
and here's the remake:

So which is better? I'm biased because I think Amber Rose is bomb but...and don't get into whether or not she can actually do an Arabesque or not. Because GJ couldn't do it either.
Donatello thought you looked dumb. Twitter let you HAVE IT too homie. Fabolous said you looked like a "gay batman" and as a fan even I had to scratch my head at the legwarmers on the hands and the leather pedal pushers...wow. Tevin Campbell gave you the c'mon son.
Leather Superhero Outfit = SuperFail
...okay...now that that's out the way.
The new album Raymond vs. Raymond has some hot production on it. I'm not gonna lie. "Papers" grew on me like "Put A Ring On It" did for Beyonce (which means I'll eventually hate it again). "Daddy's Home" sounds like a leave the club with me banger and now he's got "Little Freak" which samples Stevie Wonder. (Genius Polow da Don). I actually like "Little Freak" featuring Nikki Minaj, but I think it's entirely because of Polow's production and not the lyrics. It's way too juvenile for 30+ ush. I can't help thinking it was written for someone younger...say a Jeremih, Chris Brown or even the ever descriptive Pleasure P. (think under)
Mr. Raymond, I know you're trying to stay current doing songs with Gucci Mane and Nikki the Ninja but on this one? Usher Little Freak Comeback=Fail.
We should be ashamed...we should have known better. When the world gasped collectively, pondering the condition of our beloved Tiger Woods after crashing his SUV...less than a few feet from his home...into a tree?
Something didn't seem right then. Why did it take an ENTIRE day to get the update on his condition. Was he drunk? Was he driving? What were they covering up? It wasn't until day's later we found out that Tiger was trying to escape his Nordic queen Elin and made an error in driving judgment. Maybe because he was dodging a 'driver' himself. Tiger Woods, PGA Champion, Gillette spokesman, Gatorade Power Drink, EA Sports Game hero. He made Nike Golf popular...hell he made Golf popular. The only reason anyone I know knows anything about golf is because of the "Cablanasian" boy wonder who's been swinging the iron since he could carry a bag.
But he broke the hearts of millions. Not with his inability to make par or a Eagle when behind. It was his infidelity.
HOW DARE YOU TIGER!
You made us love you when we thought you were the sweet, big-toothed boy next door. You would never hurt us. But you did. You cheated. So for weeks I had to get sophmoronic text messages talking about how "Tiger is really a Cheetah!".
Cute.
But why is this news? Between the issues in Haiti, the Supreme Court's flawed decision making ability and all things Obama and politics related. Why do we care so much about what a sports figure does off the links?
He's an athlete. Akin to a rockstar, married or not; the truth is he probably has groupies in more states than they have golf courses. Just beyond the rope there are throngs of women waiting to sleep with Tiger. So why is anyone surprised he's swinging Wood at more than one hole? He could've been like Kobe and went straight for the back 9. Which brings me to another point...
Kobe? Extramarital affair ("I thought it was consensual") with a young white woman in Colorado. Jordan? Extramarital affair that put Jordan in the dog house Magic? He stepped out on his wife, he slept with so many women he contracted HIV...which has "magically" disappeared. Shaq? He's slept with everyone from Superhead (Karen Steffans) to Agent Zero's wife. Seemingly he sleeps with everyone but his own wife. But why stop at athletes? Bill Clinton, John Edwards and countless others who chalk it up to everything from momentary weakness to sex addiction. The bottom line is, men are only as faithful as their options. These powerful men who are revered in film, magazines, television and sports are afforded with WAY more options than law should allow. I don't tolerate infidelity by any stretch of the imagination, but I can completely see how temptation can get the best of you, especially when that ego is talking bigger than your conscious and you've never been caught. No wonder Tiger ammassed 11+ bust-down lovers.
Tiger is no different. Why are his indiscretions prime for public inquiry? It's not a question of fairness. He's a private person, but the minute you become famous that's done son. But dang. So long as that doesn't effect his ability to get from the tee to the green? Leave that man alone! He's saying he doesn't know if he'll come back to Golf now. But that's the media's fault. I wonder if he would have been able to handle it privately would that even be on his mind.
Wow...what a way to start 2010. So much has happened. President Obama is catching flack from both sides for failing to measure up to the mammoth expectations set before him, Port Au Prince, Haiti experienced perhaps the most devastating national disaster to ever hit the western world, and apparently Jay-Z is a devil worshiping, satanic mason out to rid the world of all good and plunge us into a destiny as black as his wardrobe for the better part of a year.
I don't think dude is a devil-worshiper. Eccentric? Absolutely. Different? Most geniuses are. But a mastermind behind a conspiracy to re-ignite the flame started by the illuminati? Conspiracy theorists can work off that. Don't get me wrong, the stuff is interesting, but like everything else, sometimes if you look for a reason to distrust someone or something, you'll more than likely find it. I don't wanna be written off as a nut job commenting on that which I don't understand nor makes me any money (not that I get crazy paid for blogging my thoughts) but there's enough people doing it that I don't need to hump the trend. Just Google search it.
"What makes mentioning all that relevant then?"; you're probably asking. Well if people thought Jay was evil before, they might really question it now. Everyone is doing as much as they can in terms of relief efforts in Haiti. The American Red Cross has set up a text to donation fund accessible through most cell phone carriers that will allow you to make a $10 donation by messaging the word "HAITI" to 90999. I've done it several times. There's been countless benefit concerts hosted by BET, comedians giving their jokes for a good cause and countless advertisements keeping the effort at the forefront of our consciousness. The latest is a remake of the 25 year old classic "We Are the World".
The original version, written and produced by Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie was recorded by a cast of celebrities and musicians famous during that time. Most notably the King of Pop, Micheal Jackson. The new version, updated for the iPod generation has included the likes of Kanye West and his girl Friday, Amber Rose. Barbara Strissand, Trey Songz, LL Cool J, Wyclef Jean, Anthony Hamilton, Jennifer Hudson and too many other artists to name all added their vocals as well. The new version is vastly different from the original, only the gloved one's vocals remain accompanied by his sister Janet. The new version includes a unison rap and elements of Reggae. The only thing missing is Young Hov.
One might find it curious that one of the number one selling artists of our time, with more number one albums than Elvis would miss an opportunity to once again make music history. But he did, and he wasn't alone. Madonna passed it up. As did Beyonce. One might ask...why?!? This is obviously a worthwhile cause, all proceeds from downloads will go to benefit the relief efforts in Haiti much like the original did to fight famine in Africa a quarter century ago. Jay was personally invited by Quincy Why then would Jigga not want to contribute? This is what he had to say...
"I'm a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that's going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts: (Millions have been raised) through text (donations) to Haiti. So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but 'We Are the World' is (musically) untouchable like 'Thriller' is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it's gonna be untouchable."
I tend to agree. Jigga famously stated once: "when a trend becomes a gimmick, get rid of it." So why jump on the RIP MJ bandwagon and re-record WATW and not make a whole new song? Wouldn't that be a more earnest and valiant effort? Or maybe Jones and company just really wanted to give MJ one more chance to posthumously give back? The world may never know, and Jigga will definitely not be on the remix.
Okay. I just want the bleeding to stop. If I hear one more person say to me "it was a bad weekend for black people" I'm gonna scream. Yes. Lil' Mama made herself look like an idiot for not falling back crashing the stage during Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' performance of Empire State of Mind. Yes, Kanye looked like a douche for storming the stage and ruining Taylor Swift's moment. *shrugs*. I think both moment's are shocking, but no where near warranted the type of language I've been hearing or the type of blatant racist statements I've been seeing over the past few days.
Lil Mama isn't too bright. We know this. If anyone should be pointing fingers at her, it should be the GLBT Community for making reckless comments about Leomi from Vogue Evolution and her being born a Male and not Female. Lil' Mama has no pause to talk to anyone about being transgendered, and should stick to commenting on dance techniques and clean lines and less on genitalia and what that has to do with being a lady or a man for that matter. Clearly her sense of timing and appropriate etiquette is lacking as well.
I've stated before. Yes. I am a fan of Kanye, but no by no means am I a fan of his antics. Do I agree with everything he does? No. But I don't agree with everything I do. Has he done this type of thing before? Yes. Do I think he's a pariah and a necessary whipping boy for the entire continental U.S.? Negative. I'm embarrassed for him. I'm embarrassed for Lil' Mama. Both of them deemed their opinion or their presence more important than it actually is. I think Beyonce should of won too. As a matter of fact, I thought GaGa was going to take the award on general purpose. But I was happy for Taylor Swift being that it was her first award.
People actually hate Kanye West now. Taylor Swift gave an awesome performance afterwards. Clearly baby girl has a thick skin, so we don't need to protect her. Beyonce made amends by relinquishing her time to give her speech to allow Taylor to have her moment. Beautifully done.
Kanye goes on the premiere of the Jay Leno show and before his scheduled appearance, makes a public apology to Taylor Swift, his fans, and the memory of his mother. But that's still not enough?!?! So what if he makes an ass of himself. It's entertaining. If he threw blood on her on stage and screamed "THEY'RE ALL GONNA LAUGH AT YOU!" or "COUNTRY MUSIC IS MURDER!!!" ...I could see people being more mad. But saying he "Cursed out Taylor and snatched her award" is just false and fabricating an already mammoth sized situation out of proportion. He apologized to Taylor's mother, he apologized to Taylor herself the next day. He apologized publicly. What do you want from this man? His testicles on a platter?
Then to hear people call him a racist piece of shit? People are going so hard at this guy it would be laughable if it weren't so offensive:
dapz400- "that was a god awful apology...pretending to be crying...motherfucking gayfish...i hope you don't ever get a chance again....i cant respect you as an artist, hell as a human being for what you did!!! all my respects to taylor swift, even though im not really into her music it doesnt mean i cant say she is a great artist."
lHateyouYesyou-"UCK YOU KANYE, this isnt the first time u been an asshole, you been an asshole your whole like saying how you should be in the bible and your the voice of this generation, you 31, u might have been the voice of the last generation but now your just a mic grabbing telling ppl they dont deserve a award nigger, this is the only time i wish the KKK was still around so the could lynch you. Im in the computer lab at school and theres a black guy next to me, i hope he dosent see me type this."
joewoo127- "Back In Da' CAGE ! MONKEY ! "
shaveliii- "kayne west is a rude ass mutherfucking nigga who should had gotten shot yesterday..Im not rascist but you dont do that to no1...she won it what u gun do?nigga ass hater!!! I hate kayne west.he was probably drugged up in that bitch..i hate kayne west he suckssss"
So now he's a racist. He should die because he grabbed the microphone on stage. He just couldn't stand that a white girl won over his bosses wife...people...his girlfriend is white. Can't hate Caucasians too much to stay up under one that tall nightly. I'm just saying. I think Kanye is passionate about music for one and for two that he hit that bottle of Hennessey really hard he brought with him on the Red Carpet. Worse things have happened. Someone threw a shoe at Bush. No one went hard on them like this. It's ridiculous these comments. Check yourself and look in the mirror. Every religion preaches forgiveness. Pick one and move on to more important things to talk about. Everyone knows EXACTLY what Kanye said to Taylor...but I can't find three people that know both parties positions on Universal Health Care...riiiiiiiight.
Oh, one more from the peanut gallery. One person responded to the Kanye vids with this:
CamiloSanchez1979 -"that's the least humble black guy i have ever seen since serena williams xD "
Serena should not be made out to be some animal on the court. Not when Jimmy Connors =(1986), John McEnroe (at Wimbleton 1981), Mikhail Youzhny, (2008) and Marat Safin all have thrown the biggest temper tantrums Tennis has ever seen!!!!
True, Serena is a woman, but Sharapova curses like a sailor in tounges that would make poor Dolce' the Dog cower in fear from a Powershot. She's not fined $10,000 for match point antics. (http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/thehumancondition/archive/2009/09/13/serena-williams-tennis-tantrum-and-five-memorable-on-court-freakouts.aspx)
Let's be real.
I don't call out a racial double standard often, but when Black people do embarrassing things or make unpopular public statements, it's the end of the world. People have been talking about Kanye, Lil' Mama and Serena Williams nonstop for days. People don't even remember the name of the representative who called our President a liar on national television during an address to Congress in chambers.
I do. It was South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson. Unabashed and unashamed. He called the President of the United States a liar. And refused to apologize on the floor. Even when Republican party leaders demanded he do so. Republican's applauded his antics. Hell, in some circles I'm sure he got a medal. There were republicans who openly laughed and booed him during a speech on Health Care. I don't get when polite disdain went out of fashion, but I say this to point out that entertainers and athletes aren't the only offenders. Politicians are well versed at being a jerk as well.
Speaking of athletes, I think the only people thanking Kanye for what he did, if even only privately is Micheal Vick and Chris Brown. The heat's off Vick for a while because what he did is no where near as bad. He only had knowledge of fight dogs being beat and electrocuted then buried on his property. Chris Breezy only domestically abused his girlfriend and left her on a curb crying...But Kanye should be publicly stoned for being critical openly in a society where talking about Lady GaGa's attire and performance, the season finale of The Hills and T.O.'s first game with the Buffalo Bills takes precedent over the missing body of a missing Yale University graduate found in a laboratory wall.
No one talks about what's important anymore. The social and political agenda has been set. More TV's are tuned to MTV and VH1 than CNN and MSNBC. We're a wealth of knowledge on popular culture but completely ignorant of relevant current events and we create enemies of entertainers when we excuse AIG executives and ex-presidents who usher the family of known terrorists out of the country moments after an attack on U.S. soil...
I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin. But Obama is the liar.
Get a grip people. Let it go. Chris Brown apologized. Let him be. Kanye did too. I have yet to hear from Joe Wilson publicly and Bush escaped the wrath by re-writing the history of his presidency throughout the 911 saga. Can we move on now?
So, I used to umpire Softball in college. The one rule I made paramount to all others holds true for Baseball, Basketball, Track and Field, Wrestling, you name it....you never make a call that decides a game one way or another. I say this to acknowledge that whenever your call directly decides who wins and who loses, the outcome is never a good one. Take the incident involving Serena Williams in the last set of the U.S. Open Semifinals. A foot-fault call by an official earned said umpire an ear full from Ms. Williams who found her Compton roots quickly by delivering a severe tongue lashing and also earned the maximum penalty for Serena which includes:
$10,000 fine by the U.S. Open for unsportsmanlike conduct
An additional $500 fine for racket abuse was also imposed by tournament referee Brian Earley
and the possibility of Serena losing her entire $350,000 prize purse for this tournament, plus recieve a ban for future Slams starting with the 2010 Australian Open. All within the committee's authority.
I'm not saying that officials shouldn't make calls, I'm not even so jaded as to propose that Serena's comments should be overlooked, but whenever you make a call resulting in point distribution...kind of giving the match away if you do it on match point. I would've went ballistic too. You basically just gave away the competition to the opponent. If she foot faulted then she foot faulted. I'm not going to cry foul, but Serena's right, she's never been called for foot fault so gingerly before and her game wasn't off by any measure, so what gives?
The Williams sisters have always received the short end of the stick in what some perceive as leveling the playing field against their unabashed dominance. Nevertheless,...wow.
Considering this outburst may have caused the No. 2 seat in the world to be banned from the sport that made her famous for at least a year doesn't bode well. Sure she still has her clothing line and her lucrative acting career....
...
but her endorsements have got to suffer considering she's not on the court to promote the "swoosh".
Emotional outbursts in the heat of competition is expected from athletes, you see it in the NBA, NFL, NASCAR, every sport features at least one of it's stars lashing out at a questionable call that drastically changes the outcome of the competition at hand. This official just had the unfortunate duty of calling it in the final minutes. No different than a phantom foul call in favor of the home team on NBC, no different than an out of bounds call less than a yard from the goal line as the clock ticked down. The only difference? There's a team dynamic. There's always a level-headed guard or wide receiver to come snatch you up and pull you away from career suicide.
For Team Serena, in absence of Venus, there's only I in team, and she payed the cost for stepping over the line with no net to catch her.
Okay, let's get right in to it. Since this will be the topic of discussion at the water cooler tomorrow anyway. Yes, Kanye "to the" acted a complete ass on stage last night at the MTV Video Music Awards. And I say this as a fan of both Kanye West and his music. Honestly though,...is anyone surprised?
Kanye West is known for tantrums, he's got a napoleon complex (he's at least a good 6 inches shorter than Taylor Swift, heels or not), he's got an undeserved sense of self-importance and a chip on his shoulder the size of the hope diamond. He always feels slighted and takes pride in fighting for the underdog.
Give him credit, he always says what the average American lacks the intestinal fortitude to say. I'll admit, I had the "wtf" face when Taylor Swift, a 16 year old country music prodigy came on stage to accept the Best Female Video award in a category that included Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Katy Perry, Lady GaGa and yes even Beyonce Knowles Carter herself. All I could think was...."how'd that work?!?". But all my befuddlement was erased by Taylor's southern charm and genuine appreciation. How quickly we forget how young she is and that this is her first award. Taylor Swift is as un-jaded by stardom as a pop princess can be and I had the unmitigated gall to accuse her of not having as substantial chance of winning as the grammy powerhouses that surrounded her. Shame on me. Her award was the only one I didn't call.
None of that mattered though. Despite the fact that I'm sure Taylor's heartfelt speech in which she quickly acknowledged the fact that she never thought her winning a coveted "Moon Man" was possible, in storms West with a vengeance. Mind you. He never directly said anything cross to Taylor Swift. He did in fact say he was happy for her and he wanted her to have her moment. But he couldn't resist his opportunity to protest. His opinion is so important and valued that his statement could drastically change the outcome of what was just handed down. Even Beyonce couldn't help but cringe as he admonished the awards show committee because "Beyonce had one of the greatest videos of all time. Of ALL TIME!" then shrugged his shoulders in an 'I'm just sayin' fashion and returned to his seat.
Poor Taylor was so flabberghasted they had to cut to a vignette impromptu and rush her off stage because unfortunately, Ms. Swift was due to perform next.
The incident was uncalled for, yes. But again, what do you expect? The MTV Awards Show producers live for unpredictable moments, it makes for great TV and twitter tweets. Even facebook had a "twitter-esque" feel to it as I found myself updating the non-cable having public on the happenings and keeping them abreast of all the mass craziness. It's really no different than the guy who climbed the structure on stage and refused to come down at the VMA's a few years ago. How quickly we forget the infamous Diana Ross/Lil' Kim tit-tweek of 99' or the very first VMA's in 1984 when Madonna humped the stage or when she tonged down Brittany & Christina.
Video award outrageous-ness can be seen as recently at the 09 BET Awards when Ving Rhames, Tyrese and (unwillingly) Taraji P. Henson re-enacted scenes from John Singleton's laughable ghetto drama "Baby Boy". Complete with a drunkard Rhames telling the audience to call and response that BET and Micheal Jackson are "guns" and those other "bitch ass award shows" are butter.
pardon my french, but I am quoting.
Anywho, the VMA's being one of those "other" award shows, definitely trumped the BET Awards where it counted. A STELLAR Micheal Jackson tribute that suited his legacy well as Janet Jackson graced the stage to perform "Scream" alongside her iconic brother on screen much like Natalie Cole performed green-screen with her father the great Nat King Cole.
It was a tear jerker to say the least, but as the 80 or so dancers covered the choreography to Thriller, Beat It, & Smooth Criminal, MTV waved a Dikembe Motumbo sized finger at BET who should know by now that less is more. Even though NeYo killed his MJ tribute and New Edition tried unsuccessfully to recapture the magic of the Jackson Five, they came up short having the unfortunate duty of paying homage to one of the Black Community's biggest if not the biggest star on the biggest night in Black Entertainment Television. Needless to say MTV 1, BET 0.
The rest of the performances stretched from the amazing to the odd. Two ends of the spectrum spring to mind. Pink's acrobatic performance high above the Radio City Music Hall audience was innovative and imaginative and kept me interested start to finish. Lady GaGa who had the oddest outfits of the night (I think she was channeling Bijork...seriously she looked like an escaped extra from Pan's Labyrinth the whole show, complete with 4 outfit changes I could count); went in a very avant'e guard direction with an Opera theme that was too over the top even for the Rocky Horror Picture Show. There were bedazzled wheel chairs, and platinum walking apparatuses and collapsing chandeliers that somehow by the song's end caused GaGa to bleed out to the akward amazement of the millions of viewers around the globe. Not to mention her date for the awards was the well known actor of stage & screen both big and small....Kermit "the" Frog.
Pause
I'm so not joking.
Honestly, the rest of the show wasn't that memorable. Or maybe in comparison to Kanye West's outburst everything else just seemed normal by juxtaposition. Megan Fox (who I think is vastly overrated) should shoot her stylist, hang her and drag her behind a Buick Regal with a shotgun reflex and a heavy black exhaust over cobblestones and broken glass. Seriously, she looked a hot mess with that outfit. I'm not sure what inspired the design but she looked like she was auditioning for Tweetle Dee or Dum in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, or at least she kept the outfit. Needless to say it wasn't becoming.
I spent most of the night wondering how bad Kanye was going to get booed when they announced his name for all the awards he was nominated for. As expected, he was unceremoniously booed the entire night. I even mused at whether or not Kanye would storm the stage again if Kid Cudi or Drake didn't win best new artist, but something tells me Security escorted him from the building after his first rant. By the way, VMA security gets the fail of the night, I'll tell you why later.
Jack Black get's a fail for leading everyone in a satanic (while satirical) prayer to satan complete with devil's horns salute. (dude...it just wasn't funny. And I'm a Jack Black fan)
MTV gets a fail for inviting Russell Brand to host because he's so rude, crass, oversexed and obnoxious he makes Dane Cook appear charming. His sense of humor and objectification of women literally makes me cringe, which is probably one of the biggest reasons why you saw more presenters and less hosting by the third commercial break. I can say this, Jamie Foxx, while grasping at straws at first with his MJ tribute and Moonwalk looked to bomb at first, once he threw on his Aviators and found his swagger so to speak, he was a much more charismatic and entertaining host...funny even! (Skank Robbers featuring Foxx as Wanda and Martin Lawrence as Sheneanea...nuff said). Russell Brand just gets off on saying whatever comes to mind. He went from defending Lady GaGa against allegations of her being an intersexed individual (what some in politically incorrect circles may refer to as a hermaphrodite), to putting in a bid to "shag" her on live television. He told Katy Perry she had a hole in her knickers, threatened to date rape Megan Fox and informed the crowd he had a sack of magic and a wand in his trousers. He said many more crass things, but I'll let you watch the replay to get the gist. The most Jamie Foxx did was call out Tyler Perry...*shrugs* I would've too for turning down the opportunity to join Lawrence and Foxx portraying his own masculine female comedy powerhouse Madea.
Needless to say, MTV 1 BET 1.
Unlike Russell Brand, Beyonce is a class act. In the full circle that is entertainment karma, Bey-Z actually did take home the moon man for video of the year. Which ironically is the biggest award of the night, so Kanye's tirade went for naught. Instead of talking about how great her performance of "Single Ladies" was (which it really was kind of dope), without plugging her new House of Dereon line, without thanking her mom for desigining her outfits or acknowledging her dancers or her record label or directors. She reminds us instead.
She takes us back to when she was 17 and she won her first VMA with Destiny's Child, and how that was a defining moment in her career. So instead of thanking God and all her fans, she invited Taylor to come back out on stage and have her moment without interruption. Standing Ovation for both Beyonce and Taylor Swift.
Epic Win: Beyonce & Taylor Swift. Very classy. Expected if you have any salt as a human being with feelings and emotions, but still it goes a long way to buck the trend of divas and divo's in the music industry who have a sense of entitlement.
Finally, after sitting through the whole awards show and seeing Eminem's triumphant return to Award Show land (winning as well), although I really don't see how the campy "We Made You" is a better video or song than "D.O.A." no hate, just saying. I finally got to see Jigga perform after teases of his arrival all night. When Hov was in the building, it was without fanfare but not without significant buildup. Complete with a camera crew following him from his black convoy arrival to Radio City and backstage walk to greet the crowd equipped with Yankee hat tilted.
His performance of "Empire State of Mind" with Alicia Keys was a fitting tribute to the city that hosted the 2009 VMA's and the home of both collaborators. Keys was inspiring on the ivory's and Shawn Carter was charismatic on the mic. As magic as it can get without being the Fade to Black concert. Classic.
That is, until the final moments where Jay and Alicia hit the B-Boy stance arms folded to close out the number when who should appear. Not fellow New Yorkers P. Diddy, or fellow Brooklynites Mos Def and Talib Kweli, not Fabolous or Nas or Russell Simmons, Rev Run or any of the Empire State's powerhouses of Hip Hop past and present...it was Lil' Mama. Miss Lipgloss herself had the outer ovaries to stand next to her idol and pose as if invited. It would've been cool if Jay acknowledged her presence or even shared birthplace with a playful nod or inviting proximity stance, but his initial look was "wtf?!?", patted her on the leg gesturing to her to fall back and stop T-Paining (like T-Pain jumping on stage during Jay's Summer Jam performance of D.O.A.) and he even went so far as to inch away and distance himself from his fellow brooklynite and emcee. It'd be funnier if it weren't so sad and embarrassing for ABDC's equivalent to Paula Abdul. But she is the bat-shit equivalent right? Lil' Mama, the distance he put between himself and you is one of the reasons why you're adored more for your judging role on ABDC than for your music. Take heart, at least your outfit wasn't as rediculous as Lady GaGa's Red Lace Crown and Mask getup or her White Porcupine Eskimo outfit....for a change.
Again,...for trying to pull a baby Kanye, if even only to Ricky Bobby on stage and pose for the frame...Lil' Mama still gets a fail. And so does security. (Does anyone watch the stage anymore??)
Since Jay's performance on both the VMA's and the BET Awards shows premiered new singles off the Blueprint 3 and both performances were dope, I can't give an advantage here, but I will say this. Kanye showed poor Award Show etiquette, we know this. But as I said, he's infamous for it. He's thrown tantrums at every award show he didn't win at. He just couldn't wait for his category this time.
Maybe him and Amber Rose had a more pressing engagement and he figured he needed to get it out of the way. Who knows. At any rate. Considering all the family ties between Janet and Micheal, (complete with the trailer for "This Is It", which I wanna see WAY more than "New Moon", but I wanna see Where the Wild Things Are more than all of them), the Jay Z performance, the complete disregard for appropriate conduct on the part of the Louis Vuitton Don and the class act gesture of Mrs. Carter at the end, I'd have to say advantage VMA's. If only for the controversy.
We'll see how many Award Shows Kanye gets invited to now. Hey, at least he didn't shout "liar" right? You should be thanking Lil' Mama. She may have saved you some embarrassment by basking in her own.
Okay. So...Mariah...why? I understand you have a new album coming out, but why would you go back at Eminem for his years of name dropping. If you have no clue what I'm talking about, I'm of course referring to Mariah Carey's lead single from her new album "Obsessed".
As a self-professed hip hop aficionado, I feel it only fair to judge this like any other hip hop heavyweight fight. Who knows, this could be the new Roxanne Shante vs. UTFO. There are a few caustic barbs on Mariah's end. Namely: "Got you all fired up with your Napoleon Complex. Seein' right through you like you're bathin' in windex" as well as "It must be the weed, it must be the E. 'Cause you be poppin', hood you get it poppin'" and of course this is even cute "You a mom and pop, I'm a corporation. I'm the press conference, you a conversation".
Nice. If you were coming at hubby like this? You would probably kill what's left of Nick's Hip Hop career. But we'll leave Mr. America's Got Talent alone. Eminem said more than enough. Seriously. Eminem has thrown deadly shots at Ja Rule, his on and off again wife/girlfriend Kim and even his own mother. Her attempts to get back didn't go well and she's got a whole childhood of personal information to drudge up. Have you not seen 8-Mile? How do you battle a man who will diss himself?
I actually gave Em some props for a hot second for not jumping into Madame Butterfly's childish fray, but that just wouldn't be Marshall. Every hip hop enthusiast loves a good battle. It makes things interesting especially when it's personal. Eminem never fails to disappoint on this front.
I WISH I could post half the stuff Eminem said. I'm much more comfortable letting his YouTube video speak for itself.
I will say this. The battle may as well have been over before it got started as soon as Eminem said:
"Sit back and relax homey, kick back and relax, grab a six pack while I kick facts/Yeah Dre’s sick track, perfect way to get back/Wanna hear something wick wack?/I got the exact same tat that’s on Nick’s back"
WOW. You know who I feel the worst for in this situation? Nick Cannon. I actually like the guy. He's obviously in love with Mariah, you can tell he adores her whenever he speaks about her. The fact that he can rap doesn't equip him to go toe to toe with one of Hip Hop's Heavyweights, and even though most men who's wives were being disrespected would step up and duke it out, in the Hollywierd world of high priced lawyers and strapped bodyguards; I doubt that's an arena Nick wants to step into either. He obviously can't calm his wife down, otherwise she never would've released this as a lead single. And no one can calm Eminem, he does what he wants all the time. This has potential to get so much worse before it gets better. All Nick can do is grin and bear it.
Based on height and reach, Nick may be able to take Eminem if they were to decide to take this to maybe a celebrity boxing match for charity. It wouldn't shut Em up, but it may give Nick some of his pride back. But then again, how do you combat crazy?
So the poster to the left has been seen on telephone polls and plastered across anything not moving in Los Angeles and surrounding cities.
First let me address this whole socialist moniker. Socialism(according to Wiki) refers to any one of various theories of economic organization advocating state, public or common worker ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equal access to resources for all individuals with a more egalitarian method of compensation. Basically the fear stems from Republicans thinking Obama wishes to redistribute wealth thus diminishing the lined pockets of fat cats who already benefit from being taxed at the lowest percentage when they make up a majority of the nation's wealth. Rush Limbaugh takes offense to anyone who threatens his pill popping pockets apparently. Obama is hardly socialist. But if the definition of insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results? And it means American's don't have to live paycheck to pawnshop? I'm rolling with change all the way. Now let's get into this white-face, wide grinned image. Some have blown the whistle and deemed this to be a racist depiction of our beloved president. Maybe they see white-Face as an homage representation of whites who used black-face to entertain in movies, which indeed was racist.
Black face for those who've never seen movies such as Spike Lee's Bamboozled was an effort to further stereotypes of African Americans and create further levels of buffoonery to attach to blacks. This however is not the case.
Keep a few things in mind, I'm not supporting Rush Limbaugh or his ignorance in creating such a distasteful visage to rile up his countless followers. BUT this isn't racist. Obama is black because when you look at him that's all you see. He's the first to tell you that he's not the "black president", he didn't run that way and he doesn't want to be looked at as our nation's "black president". His mother is white and his father is from Kenya and he was born in Hawaii (and apparently that makes his citizenship up for debate, huh Lou Dobbs? smh). This is not a racial dig. It's true intent is to call Obama the biggest villain in political history much like Heath Ledger's depiction of the Joker is lauded as the perhaps the greatest movie villain of recent memory. This I do however disagree with. I know that staunch republicans who listen to Rush Limbaugh to be their voice of reason will never agree with anything that a democrat in office does. But this hardly calls for anyone to think Obama is America's villain. Think about what the Joker did in "The Dark Knight". He blew up a hospital, tortured and killer innocent bystanders and drove a city into chaos more or less out of boredom. He truly believed that people's codes, morals and values were nothing more than shadows soon to be cast aside. Like a bad joke. Dropped at the first hint of trouble.
"They're only as good as the world allows them to be. I'll show you. When the chips are down, these... these civilized people, they'll eat each other. See, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve."-The Joker (The Dark Knight, 2009)
Is this who we're comparing our president to now? To a movie villain who believed that the only sensible way to live life is a world without rules.
2009 is definitely not a world without rules. A world without rules is more apt to describe the life that led to the economy we now suffer through. One where big business fat cats paid themselves exorbitant sallaries at the expense of those who worked for them. Cost cutting messages that resulted in downsizing that funded a new car or condo for top level executives. The ultimate upside down pyramid. The economy, contrary to popular belief did not approach a recession-type feel the minute he took the oath of office. Our economy started going into the toilet over the past decade before he even decided to run.
I've got other people I'd like to blame besides Obama for our monetary slump. But you can't negate personal responsibility. You can't be opportunistic in your business ventures with regards to mortgage foreclosure and predatory lending. You can't say Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae did everything right. Even with Obama's approval rating at 50%, the lowest it's been since he was elected president, the same poll found that Americans disapproved 59-29 percent of how Republicans in Congress were doing their job and that they trusted Obama over Republicans 47-36 percent to fix the economy and 46-37 percent to deal with health care. He's not the villain, he's the definitive Dark Knight. He's the scapegoat for republicans worried about their personal finances. They'll hunt him. They'll demonize him. You can either be a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain right? So he'll be the biggest villain that republican's have ever seen. So thank you Rush Limbaugh, because of your tirades you've helped us see that Obama's not so much the Joker as Batman.
