So...Obama is a Joker Socialist?

Posted by dap_dorsey Aug 8, 2009

So the poster to the left has been seen on telephone polls and plastered across anything not moving in Los Angeles and surrounding cities.

First let me address this whole socialist moniker.
Socialism (according to Wiki) refers to any one of various theories of economic organization advocating state, public or common worker ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equal access to resources for all individuals with a more egalitarian method of compensation. Basically the fear stems from Republicans thinking Obama wishes to redistribute wealth thus diminishing the lined pockets of fat cats who already benefit from being taxed at the lowest percentage when they make up a majority of the nation's wealth. Rush Limbaugh takes offense to anyone who threatens his pill popping pockets apparently. Obama is hardly socialist. But if the definition of insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results? And it means American's don't have to live paycheck to pawnshop? I'm rolling with change all the way.

Now let's get into this white-face, wide grinned image. Some have blown the whistle and deemed this to be a racist depiction of our beloved president. Maybe they see white-Face as an homage representation of whites who used black-face to entertain in movies, which indeed was racist.

Black face for those who've never seen movies such as Spike Lee's Bamboozled was an effort to further stereotypes of African Americans and create further levels of buffoonery to attach to blacks. This however is not the case.

Keep a few things in mind, I'm not supporting Rush Limbaugh or his ignorance in creating such a distasteful visage to rile up his countless followers. BUT this isn't racist. Obama is black because when you look at him that's all you see. He's the first to tell you that he's not the "black president", he didn't run that way and he doesn't want to be looked at as our nation's "black president". His mother is white and his father is from Kenya and he was born in Hawaii (and apparently that makes his citizenship up for debate, huh Lou Dobbs? smh). This is not a racial dig. It's true intent is to call Obama the biggest villain in political history much like Heath Ledger's depiction of the Joker is lauded as the perhaps the greatest movie villain of recent memory. This I do however disagree with. I know that staunch republicans who listen to Rush Limbaugh to be their voice of reason will never agree with anything that a democrat in office does. But this hardly calls for anyone to think Obama is America's villain. Think about what the Joker did in "The Dark Knight". He blew up a hospital, tortured and killer innocent bystanders and drove a city into chaos more or less out of boredom. He truly believed that people's codes, morals and values were nothing more than shadows soon to be cast aside. Like a bad joke. Dropped at the first hint of trouble.

"They're only as good as the world allows them to be. I'll show you. When the chips are down, these... these civilized people, they'll eat each other. See, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve."-The Joker (The Dark Knight, 2009)

Is this who we're comparing our president to now? To a movie villain who believed that the only sensible way to live life is a world without rules.

2009 is definitely not a world without rules. A world without rules is more apt to describe the life that led to the economy we now suffer through. One where big business fat cats paid themselves exorbitant sallaries at the expense of those who worked for them. Cost cutting messages that resulted in downsizing that funded a new car or condo for top level executives. The ultimate upside down pyramid. The economy, contrary to popular belief did not approach a recession-type feel the minute he took the oath of office. Our economy started going into the toilet over the past decade before he even decided to run.

I've got other people I'd like to blame besides Obama for our monetary slump. But you can't negate personal responsibility. You can't be opportunistic in your business ventures with regards to mortgage foreclosure and predatory lending. You can't say Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae did everything right. Even with Obama's approval rating at 50%, the lowest it's been since he was elected president, the same poll found that Americans disapproved 59-29 percent of how Republicans in Congress were doing their job and that they trusted Obama over Republicans 47-36 percent to fix the economy and 46-37 percent to deal with health care. He's not the villain, he's the definitive Dark Knight. He's the scapegoat for republicans worried about their personal finances. They'll hunt him. They'll demonize him. You can either be a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain right? So he'll be the biggest villain that republican's have ever seen. So thank you Rush Limbaugh, because of your tirades you've helped us see that Obama's not so much the Joker as Batman.
